Access to Information Requests
New Legislation 2025: Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA)
The ATIA and POPA replace the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act, which is now repealed. The Town is a public body, therefore, it is subject to access requests for records that are under our custody and control. When a request for information is received from members of the public, businesses, organizations, etc., the Town will consult the ATIA and POPA.
There are also corresponding ATIA and POPA regulations.
Fees
To access General Information, there is an initial fee of $25.00. Payment of this fee is required before processing of the request can begin and should be included with your Request to Access Information form. If your request is for Personal Information, this initial fee is waived.
All fees are in accordance with Schedule 1 of the Access to Information Act Regulation. The Privacy Coordinator will be in contact with you to advise of any fees that may be required.
Timelines
While the Town of Bon Accord is committed to responding to and completing all access to information requests as quickly as possible, the ATIA allows for up to 30 business days for a response. In some cases an extension may be necessary.
