Privacy Management Program (PMP)

The Town of Bon Accord's PMP is a legislated requirement that must be accessible to the public. Our PMP Policy is shared below; supporting documents are located in the dropdown.

What does the PMP include?

The Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) requires public bodies to establish and implement a Privacy Management Program (PMP). The Government of Alberta has created a handy reference sheet that explains the PMP in more detail. https://www.alberta.ca/system/files/popa-fact-sheet-privacy-management-program.pdf

Please see below the list of topics covered by the PMP:

  • Identification of a privacy officer
  • Internal policies and procedures that address the public body’s duties under POPA
  • Establish a security classification system
  • Mandatory training for employees
  • Timelines for periodic review

The Town of Bon Accord, being a public body that deals with a "high volume of personal information or highly sensitive personal information," also includes the following topics in its PMP:

  • Documentation of the public body’s internal privacy management structure (roles and responsibilities)
  • Completing and submitting privacy impact assessments (PIAs)
  • Proactive monitoring of information systems to assess security measures and mitigate risks
  • Oral, electronic and written consent
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Safeguards
